Young Parents Support Service
My name is Sarah and I am 20 Years old, I have 2 little girls aged 3 and 2. I have been going to Catch-22 on and off for the last 2 and a half years. It is a brilliant place for young mothers and a good way to make new friends who also have children. It’s a lovely environment to be in and the children love going and playing there. Everyone is very friendly and you always feel welcome and able to be yourself and share any problems or anything that’s troubling you.
At the moment I am doing a Young Mothers accredited Learning Course which we started back in February but is coming to and end now. I have loved doing the course as its been nice to be doing something for me and not just for my children all the time. I’ve enjoyed doing it also because it has made me want to go to college and do further education and I am now enrolling to do more courses for September.
I’m really sad that the course is ending and I’ve enjoyed, so much, every Monday knowing I’m going to the college and having a couple of hours ‘me time’ to do something that I’m very enthusiastic about and enjoy so much.
It’s been a brilliant few months doing this course and I’m hoping that Catch-22 will be putting on more courses in the not too distant future for us to take part in as I will definitely be applying for them.
I think the catch-22 is a very important place for young mothers in our community as there are so many mothers that depend on it each week, and so many children that love going so that they can go and play with other children. For a lot of mothers this is their only form of support that they have, as a lot do not have family or a boyfriend to help them out.
It provides all the right things for being a mother and if they cannot help you in the way they think you need help they will put you in touch with someone who can help you properly. It’s an amazing place for us all to go and I would be lost without it now. So many of the girls when they get to the maximum age limit for going just don’t want to leave at all. It means a lot to all of us in one way or another.
