What would happen if it’s not treated?
In women Chlamydia can cause:
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
- Increase the risk of miscarriage & premature labour
- Ectopic Pregnancy (develops outside the womb)
- Infertility
- It can cause Pneumonia & Conjunctivitis in babies
How do I get tested?
Having a test is easy and only takes a few minutes.
How to take a swab (Females)
Self taken test – no examination
The swab is taken from the area where you insert a tampon.
- Take out the swab without touching the cotton end.
- Hold the swab by the pink cap
- Gently insert the tip into your vagina.
- Twirl the swab for about 15-30 seconds, making sure it is touching the inside of the vagina.
- Remove the swab without the cotton end touching the rest of your body.
- Place the swab back in its plastic container, cotton end down.
- Give the container back to the nurse.
Results of your Test
You will receive the result of your Chlamydia test results in 10 days/two weeks.
