C-Card FAQs

How do I get a c card and where from?

You can get a C Card from any assessor, assessment sessions run routinely from Community Contraception Services and are often held from time to time in schools, colleges, youth clubs and local events.

How old do you have to be to get one?

You can get a C Card as long as you are under 25, and the assessor feels it is right for you.

How many condoms do I get?

If you are under 16 you will get up to 6 condoms each time you use your card. The card can be used 6 times before you will need to see an assessor again. If you are 16 or over then you can get up to 12 condoms each time you use the card. Again, you can use your card up to 6 times before needing to see an assessor for a new one.

Where can I get condoms?

There are lots of collection points across the area, many Pharmacies and Chemists are on the scheme and they will display the C Card sign in their window. Some School Health teams are also able to give you condoms if you have a C Card. Contraception Service sessions are run on a drop in basis and here you can get condoms and see assessors. When do I need a new card?

When you have used your card 6 times and it is full you will need to go back to an assessor to get a new one. You will also need to get a new card if yours is lost or stolen as cards cannot be re-issued.

Does my card expire?

No, C Cards do not expire. How often you use your card and the condoms you get on the scheme is up to you.

Is it free?

The scheme is entirely free, the cards condoms and lube are all free, so why not get a group of you together and see assessors to get yours?

What types of condoms can I have?

There are 5 types of condoms available on the scheme. When you get a card you will receive a sample pack so you can decide which is right for you. You will also receive lube on the scheme as well. The varieties of condom available are; Pleasuremax, Flavoured, Extra Safe, Elite & Close Fit.

Will you tell the school or my parents?

The C-Card scheme is as far as possible a confidential service. This means that personal information can be discussed in confidence. No information you give will be discussed with anyone else without your permission. Information would only be passed on in order to protect you or someone else from serious harm. Whenever possible, this would be discussed with you first.
